This is a lecture presentation, in which our speakers will explore will explore the diagnosis of patients that suffer from ocular allergies, and how to manage using non-therapeutic and therapeutic options in a clinical setting.

Professionalism

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, community pharmacists, GPs in the best interest of the patient to ensure prompt access to treatment for ocular allergy and to be able to communicate these clearly to the patient. (s10)

Clinical Practice

• To be able to interpret and investigate the presenting signs and symptoms of a patients with ocular allergy (s7)
• An understanding of the treatment options for ocular allergy including non-pharmacological interventions and pharmacological treatments.

Speciality Optometrist AS/SP/IP

To be able to diagnose and manage ocular allergy with pharmacological interventions and an understanding of the differential diagnosis of ocular allergy.

Speaker Bio

Dr Keyur Patel is the Clinical Director at Tompkins Knight and Son Optometrists, Nothampton, UK. He has specialist interest in therapeutics, dry eye, sports vision and contact lenses, as well as Glaucoma (also working with a community glaucoma service). Keyur graduated from City University in 1999 and after 5 years in practice ventured to the United States, where he completed the accelerated O.D. program at the New England College of Optometry, Boston. After completing a residency in Community Health, he returned to England. Upon his return, to maintain the increased level of care afforded to him, he completed Diplomas in Therapeutics, Glaucoma and Sports Vision. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometrists, College of Optometrists and the British Contact Lens Association. Keyur has been a clinical instructor for NECO, City University, WOPEC, Alcon University and is lucky enough to be considered a KOL. He is very proud to have been Optometrist of the Year 2020 (Optician Magazine), BCLA Dry Eye Practitioner of the Year (2021) and a part of the Contact Lens Practice of the Year 2020 (Optician Magazine). Keyur has a keen interest in imaging and regularly shares clinical images and insights on social media as @Optomegeek
